Due to the variances in computer monitors, and the various settings for brightness and contrast that users may adjust their monitors to, we cannot guarantee with any certainty that the colour represented in a product image, on your monitor, is exactly as it appears in the physical world.
The Beauty of Natural wood
35% of our Indian furniture has been handcrafted exclusively for Furniture Haus Direct, the remaining is sourced from one of the UK’s biggest selling Indian Furniture company called BellyNelly, and comes from the Far East, Rajasthan; this is northern India using both Sheesham (also known as Indian Rosewood/Hardwood) and Mango wood (fruit wood). Both are fast growing woods, sourced from sustainable, government managed plantations. Each piece of furniture is handmade, and therefore differs from piece to piece.
Please note it is a natural product and there will be slight variations in grain in colour from piece to piece and size: this is part of the uniqueness and charm of the Furniture Haus collections. The grains are the natural characteristics of the wood and are primarily the selling points of each individual piece, which adds richness to all the collections.
The majority of our ranges have a lacquer finish which effectively seals the product and provides a final protection on the product, and also enhances the products look. We recommend that you use coasters or mats to protect your furniture from marks which could be caused by hot or wet objects.
Many of our ranges have a distinctive finish and appearance to many Sheesham or mango wood products available on the market. Our chair collections also carry similar characteristics making the Furniture Haus’s & BellyNelly ranges stand out from its peers. We hope you enjoy your purchase and appreciate our products as much as we do.
Wood Processing Information
All the woods supplied by our company are free of termites and are dried before processing. Each piece of furniture is degraded and organic chemicals are applied to treat the wood, so please be assured this product has carried many stages of treatment with great care being taken. Please also note the treatments are all environmentally friendly.
We also have special treatments in place during manufacturing which protects your product for a life time alongside the unique and beautiful look it carries.
Each piece of furniture requires around a group of 4-5 people to manufacture and care for the product during its production cycle, from start to finish.
The Characteristics of Real Wood
Many of our collections of furniture have been handcrafted from Indian Hardwood, a medium hardwood rich in character. Each piece is handmade using traditional methods and roots producing singular pieces, unique to its owner.
- You many find differences in wood grain appearance, this is a natural effect created during the maturing process. As the tree grows, the older sections in the tree develop thicker, clearer grain patterns.
- Your furniture maybe made from several cuttings of the same tree, creating the contrast of markings
- Sapwood is also something common in our products and is seen in most timbers made from Sheesham wood, you may find this appearing randomly throughout your furniture.
- Sapwood and random pigmentation are a common marking in real wood and not be seen as a defect. Pigmentation can also be seen in the Mango wood furniture (White Patina)
- Knotting is the most common of markings and is the finger joint of natural wood. These vary in size and occur frequently in natural wood products. This is why every piece of our furniture is unique, no two pieces will be quite the same, unlike mass produced veneered or foil laminated furniture.
- Pin markings are also a distinguished feature of handmade furniture. These will appear irregularly wherever the craftsmen requires additional bonding and support.
Care Instructions
Protective Matt Finish / Lacquered
As the surface has a natural wax finish great care should be taken to avoid any liquids being spilt onto the surface as this may mark the furniture.
For everyday care, wipe with a dry cloth or duster. To achieve optimum finish, polish your product with beeswax polish available for Sheesham wood, using either a dry cloth or soft material and buff your furniture slowly ensuring excess wax is removed. If any stains occur you can gently sand areas which may cause patches if spillages occur and then re-wax to bring your product back to the original form.
- To avoid your product from being damaged we would always recommend that you always use protective coasters or mats. Each piece is built for life, however if abused the natural product can deteriate if not cared for.
- Do not place cups, glasses or hot items directly onto the surface as this can cause permanent damage.
- Avoid exposing the furniture to excessive heat or direct sunlight as this can potentially cause cracking and discolouration of the timber.
- Do not use silicone based aerosol polish as this will remove the natural colour and protective coating.
- Never use a damp cloth as this may also remove part of the coating.
- Any spillages must be wiped away immediately using a dry cloth.
Important
The final finishing process involves a colour stain and lacquer applied to the product, and then buffed to enhance the wood grain. You may find that parts of the packaging leave impressions in the soft wood. These can simply be polished out with a soft cloth once your furniture has warmed to room temperature.
